Edward Donald “Eddie” Slovik

Edward Donald “Eddie” Slovik was born 18 February 1920 in Detroit in the United States, died on 31 January 1945 in Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines was congregations in the US Army during World War II, and the only American soldier has been executed for desertion since the American Civil War.

Although more than 21,000 US soldiers were convicted of desertion during World War II, including 49 death sentences were Slovik´s death penalty the only one that was completed.

It was erected court martial against Slovik on 11 November 1944. The panel of nine court-martial members found him guilty and sentenced him to death. The verdict came as a shock to Slovik, who had waited imprisonment and dismissal in disgrace. The execution by firing squad was completed on 31 January 1945 clock 10:04 near the village of Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. He was buried at Oise-Aisne American Cemetery and Memorial, a war cemetery…
